So yeah the new Tori Amos album got leaked. For a second I contemplated the moral high road, entertaining the thought of actually waiting for it to come out. For a second.
But now I sit here before you, having succumbed in a downloading frenzy, after my third listen through all 19 tracks and I still don’t have a definite opinion.
I realize she has been treading some seriously “adult contemporary” water for quite some time now but still.
I haven’t really had any MOMENTS with this new record. You know like when a particular lyric just oozes out of the speakers and downright SEDUCES you with it’s beauty.
And Tori has always been all about those MOMENTS for me.
And it feels nothing like Scarlett’s Walk, which was definitely on the “Tori-Light” side but still so god damn THEMED and EPIC and UNIVERSAL.
This is not “To Venus and Back” with all it’s blips and beeps.
Nothing like “Boys For Pele” except for the lengthy track count.
It’s just different. And I’m afraid for the most part, different = CRAPTASTIC here.
“The power of orange knickers”? Now Tori I know you can get a little nutty but have you become completely addicted to CRACK since the last album?
And I’m sorry you just cannot get away with singing “Sha-na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na” unless it is the late 70’s and you are a member of the Brady Bunch.
The ultimate verdict is still out, I don’t think I have really given all nineteen tracks their fair day in court.
But it doesn’t look good.
